Ourouparia rhynchophylla Matsum is distributed in Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Hunan, Sichuan, Guizhou. The herb is mainly produced in Guangxi, Jiangxi, Hunan, Zhejiang, Guangdong.
Uncaria sinensis Haviland is distributed in Hunnan, Hubei, Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan. The herb is mainly produced in Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, and Hubei.

Medical functions 藥理﹕
(1) sedative effect: lower the excitement of CNS helps treatment of epilepsy.
(2) lowering blood pressure effect (but does not cause peripheral vasodilation) but old stems without thorns do not possess the anti-hypertension effect.
(3) anti platelet coagulation
(1) 鎮靜作用﹕降低中樞 神經系統興奮性。
(2) 降血壓作用(但不擴張外圍血管)﹕無刺的老枝不具有降血壓作用。

1. for liver yang ascending: hypertension, blurry vision, dizziness and headache
2. for liver heat: swollen and red eyes
3. for liver heat wind syndrome: seizure in small children, influenza with seizure
4. for pre-eclampsia in pregnant women
1. 治肝陽上亢，血壓高，目眩，頭暈頭痛。

Dosage 用量﹕
For decoction: 4.5 g to 9 g. Or use in powder form. If using in decoction do not boil for long time. It should be put into the pot during the later stage of decocting. Boiling over 15 minutes will weaken its effectiveness in the lowering blood pressure in liver yang ascending syndrome, and it will not be effective in treating Parkinson's disease. . It is advisable to write down in prescription that the herb should be put in last and cook for only10 minutes.
煎湯:1.5～3錢；或入散劑。入湯劑 不宜久煎,宜 後下。如 煮沸15分鐘以上，其治肝陽上亢 降壓效能顯著减弱，對治帕金森氏症則無效。故忌久煎。
處方時應該註明後下。再煮10分鐘即可起鍋。

風濕性關節炎﹕
鉤藤 15克~24克。
加水煎15分鐘。溫服。

Toxicity & Cautions 毒素與禁忌﹕
In animals large amounts can cause damage to the heart and liver and even death.
According to classical writings, "Ben Cao New Edition": "It can damage qi and do not use in cases of deficiencies" and according to "Ben Cao Cong Xin": "Do not use in cases of lacking fire."
大劑量可導致動物心，肝 ，損傷 而死亡。
《本草新编》： "最能盗氣，虚者勿投。"《本草從新》："無火者勿服。"
Pre-eclampsia: abnormal condition in pregnancy or postpartum with hypertension, edema, and seizures, cardiac exhaustion, kidney failure, and strokes. If not treated in time it may cause death.
子痫是妊娠高血壓综合症最嚴重的階段，患者會出現抽搐，昏迷，心力衰竭，腎臟功能衰竭等症状，并可發生子宫卒中，腦溢血等并發症，如不及時搶救，可致孕婦死亡。
